Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Partnership with parents and carers plays a vital role in enabling pupils with SEND to achieve to their full potential. The school recognises that parents have important information, knowledge and experience to contribute to the shared view of the child’s needs and the ways in which they will be best supported. Therefore, all parents and carers of children with special educational needs are treated as partners and are supported in order to play an active and valued role in their child’s education. For this reason parents and carers are invited to attend all reviews.
The school is able to provide information, to all parents and carers of children with SEND, about the Parent Partnership Service. So that, parents and carers may contact the Parent Partnership Service for independent support and advice.
Definition of Special Educational Need
“A child or young person has SEND if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for them. A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if they:
a) have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age; or
b) have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or mainstream post-16 institutions.”

Following the release of the new SEND Code of Practice 2014, it is now a requirement of all schools to provide a SEND Information Report and a School Offer. There is a link to our school’s Information Report where you can read about our provision and how we support those children who have Special Educational Needs or Disabilities and their families. The school offer is part of the wider Local Authority Offer, and is based on the requirement for all schools to outline the support available to children with SEND.
